Remote Job Board Project

Update 4
September 2024. Insurance benefits finished in July and have been surviving on family support and fumes. While on benefits I had to job search and couldn’t concentrate on coding. Concentration has been tough lately. I’m a former ADHD kid (it was called ADD Type 2 for Concentration back then. Type 1 is hyperactivity) and have since 2010 controlled it through dietary changes but lately had a few setbacks. However that seems to have passed at last and now I have to complete some Udemy refresher courses and get going on this job board doodad. I’ve used Gemini AI to break down the project into mini projects so that I have a progressive road map so we’ll see how that goes. Finding a job is really rough out there, take care!
Update 3
October 2023. I went back to work at the end of 2022 and was let go at the end of September 2023. I have a few months to upskill again and prepare to restart this project for some time in 2024. I'll see how it goes and will keep using this post and the ever-expanding-comments-section below to plan out the process.
Update 2
Sponsor links added to this website. Any donations are appreciated in any amount, really🙏. With layoffs looming everywhere, this will help me survive and keep coding. I would consider them like shares, that pay you back or earn a return once the project is live. 🎅💪 🎬
Update
The Remote Job Board Project was cancelled as there were not enough pledges to meet the threshold for action. 50 pledges received represented $1010, but it was not enough to move forward. Thanks to everyone for your support! It shows interest in the project idea at least. It would need $2K to $4K to get started. The current month plus one or two months gives me the time I need to get going.
Hi, I'm Walter Spicer, a career-changer dude. 🚀,
I'm an experienced tech support technician in Toronto Canada, trying to change careers at 51, or as I like to say 39+12! ,
I had left my job to take the Scrimba.com bootcamp for Frontend Development for six months. But it's taking much longer than anticipated, (CSS grrr👹), so I'm looking to do a project with you. The financial backing covers my living costs for two to three more months of training with Scrimba.com and coding the project. Also sets a deadline for a Minimal Viable Product, (MVP) .
It's not easy finding even part-time work so if the tech community can help me out here, you can expect a return on your investment.
Here's a link to the Google Doc Pledge Form: (Edit: removed). We'll have to redo the pledges and give you some more options in the Form. I have had a great response so far, and that's very much appreciated!!! But perhaps not long enough time on the poll. ⏰

The purpose of the Remote Job Board Project is to:
build it in public.
act as training for myself and others.
create a kickass job board.
Looking at the job board market, with the average ad cost of $300 USD, the $4K to $6K only represents between 14 to 20 ads. Makes it a great candidate for your pledge. Each pledge is essentially a share of the profits, I get to learn how to code, and we get to make an interesting project .
I've been using job boards since their creation and they always had a hidden flaw. I want to express my ideas into the job posts, improve their navigation, as well as deal with any frustrations or concerns you have had too. We can then get listings we actually like. Remote job posts are great if you live in the USA, but for the rest of us not so much. Let's set the standard!
It's also possible that a company posting the ad is open to a wider talent pool outside of the USA, but the job board is unknowingly limiting that opportunity .
I think we can help everyone out . Let's make it happen!

Thanks , Walter
